Food Stamp Trafficking

According to Government Accountability Office (GAO), at least one billion dollars in food stamps benefits are “trafficked annually”. The abuse of the program could be as high $4.7 billion. About 20 million lower-income households receive benefits from the $64 BILLION Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Some of these stores are using a network called “Retailer Trafficking” (Here’s $100 dollars and give me $50 dollars back). This is nothing new. There other reason EBT and SNAP is used for? You guess! Yes, it’s a broken system the ones that need it don’t get it, while others abuse it.

Amazon’s Location

People commented on Amazon’s failed plan to move into New York City. Amazon promised 25,000 jobs for employees paying $150,000 annually. Is this possible? No, workers would have to earn over $70 an hour. That’s a lot for warehouse workers who aren’t unionized. Multiply those earnings by the number of jobs totals nearly four billion dollars. How does that compare to gross earnings?

Amazon paid no Federal taxes on its billions of earnings last year. That implies it paid little in state taxes. So how would this company benefit the city or state where it is located?

Do commentators know how to use a calculator? Do they believe everything they read?

Town Clock Letter to B.A. Fred Carr

To: Fred Carr, Business Administrator

City of Perth Amboy

Feb. 22, 2019

RE: Perth Amboy’s Historic Town Clock

Dear Mr. Carr,

Since 1869 the City of Perth Amboy has had a Town Clock. This timepiece is located on High Street in Simpson Methodist Church.  Our City is responsible for maintaining such, and to the City’s credit repair work was last performed on the clock’s belfry about 8 years ago.

I am enclosing a recent photo showing the decay that has occurred. A section of the lower clock ring is now missing, as well as its large support plank. The paint has peeled, exposing the bare wood. And rot is evident on some of the 150-year-old Italianate architectural features.

I am requesting that you seek funds for the repair of this historic landmark, which is also listed on the State & National Historic Sites Register. Our elected officials have a strong interest in our history, so I am also copying the Mayor & City Council on this.

Thank you for your anticipated help in this matter.

Correction

PERTH AMBOY – On page 3, of the February 2, 2019 edition, there is an article discussing the Town Council meeting that took place on February 13, 2019.  In that article, certain dialogue was quoted as if I said it but in fact was not what not what I said or a paraphrase of what I said but yet was printed as a direct quote. Unfortunately, in doing so the message I delivered was misrepresented and could easily be misconstrued by the public. A review of the video from that town council meeting shows the following quotes. The correct quotes corresponding to the statements made in your article are the following:

“The agency would like to extend its support for Acting Chief McKeon. Chief McKeon and the Perth Amboy Police Department have been very supportive of the agency.”

“He has been very hands-on with security concerns that we had with the children that are dropped off and picked up at our preschool.”

“Most recently we had a security incident at our aftercare program and not only was the Perth Amboy Police Department extraordinarily attentive and immediately addressed the issue but when I brought it to Chief McKeon’s attention seeking additional support, there was no hesitation.”
