Should the
Supreme Court be Increased?
There is no Constitutional limit on the number of Justices (or states). There were six Justices when Washington was President of 13 states, seven Justices when Jefferson was President of 18 states, and nine Justices when Jackson was President of 24 states. There are now fifty states and over ten times the population. Increasing the size of the Supreme Court to seventeen seems like a reasonable progression. All Congress has to do is add 1 or 2 Justices each time a new President is elected until the new limit is reached.
I believe any Constitutional change should be an age limit for the President and Supreme Court Justices. There is now an age limit of seventy for other Federal Judges. There has always been a minimum age limit for the House, Senate, and President.
