SOUTH AMBOY – Before the regular Meeting, South Amboy Elementary School Students held a mock Council Meeting where they voted on an ordinance, which was 1-2019-Second Reading: An Ordinance to regulate the speed limits in school zones within the City of South Amboy.
Students took on the roles of Government Officals.
After City Clerk Makayla Koltunick read the prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was said, Council President Noah Cruz swore in Alex Knapik as Mayor. After the roll call, an Ordinance was read by the City Clerk which was moved by 2nd Ward Councilwoman Abby Cherris. It was passed unanimously.
Law Director was Rocco Navarria. Deputy Clerk was Caleb Sambucci. Chief Financial Officer was Gwenyth Friedman Ryan Russo was Chief of Police. Business Administrator was Kyleigh McGuire. 1st Ward Councilwoman was Madden Gulick, Mary Ella Schuck was 3rd Ward Councilwoman, and student Nunez.
The Meeting was then open to the public. Questions were asked by Members of the Board of Education.
One of the questions asked was, “What resources are available if a person wanted to open up a new business?”
Some of the answers given were that informative material is available at City Hall and which Grants that are available.
The next question asked about any upcoming City events. It was mentioned that the Fireworks will be coming up as well as events that will be taking place during the summertime in City parks. There is also a dog park that may be available in the future.
When the public portion was closed, the Council or Administrators were asked if anyone had any comments. All answered, “No comments.”
Afterwards, photos were taken with all the Council Members, Administrators, Directors who stood behind the students (who were their counterparts). Photos were also taken with the Board of Education Members with the Students under the City’s Seal. Mayor Fred Henry then handed out citations to all the Student Participants. The Students who participated were under the guidance of Barbara Falvo who is the South Amboy Elementary School Student Government Advisor.
