Press Release
PARLIN – Parlin resident William Cruz, Independent Assembly Candidate in New Jersey’s 19th District, is calling on the State to establish a healthcare system that mirrors the effectiveness and efficiency of the Massachusetts health care system. Cruz is speaking to this issue more so after reading the Asbury Park Press story on insurance premiums “needing to rise” according to health care executives. “There seems to be one thing that continually happens and that is the cost to New Jersey families go up and up and up,” says Cruz. The 64-year old Cruz also points out that families are paying for these rising costs more than once. “Not only are New Jersey families paying their increased costs, but they are paying for public sector employee’s increased costs by way of tax increases to cover those price jumps,” adds Cruz. “It is time for New Jersey to establish a comprehensive State Health Care Plan that is available to all citizens and provide more efficient and cost-effective benefits to all workers [both public and private sectors].”
Cruz uses the example of a public school teacher to explain the cost increase on families. “You have a public school teacher who [by means of Chapter 78 rules] gets penalized for getting a raise by having more of a percentage of their pay getting taken out for their health care premium,” explains Cruz. “If the raise doesn’t match the increase, you possibly have someone getting a “raise” but in fact are dealing with an actual pay cut…how is this fair?” Cruz believes that New Jersey can bring about a plan that can allow for all workers to obtain quality, affordable coverage that will allow them to keep more of their pay, thus giving more financial freedom to families and bring property tax relief to all residents. Cruz also points to financial freedom for businesses to use their savings in such a plan towards company reinvestment, new hires, etc. To learn more about the campaign, please visit qolrtv.com.
