PERTH AMBOY – On 10/12/19 at 09:35, the Department was dispatched to 364 State Street for a reported fire. Units arrived to find heavy fire in the first floor commercial occupancy, with occupants trapped on the floors above. Firefighters quickly deployed two ground ladders and rescued 5 occupants including a baby from the second and third floors. Additionally several attached buildings also filled with smoke and had to be immediately evacuated. Three hoselines and extensive overhaul were needed to extinguish the fire which took two hours.
6 people were transported to the hospital, including 1 firefighter, with the majority treated for smoke inhalation.
Responding units were E-2, E-3, E-4, T-2, T-3, C-1, C-2, C-3, C-5 & C-9. Mutual aid that responded were Hopelawn Rescue 8, Keasbey Truck 4-2-4, South Amboy Engine 9, Sayreville Engine 3 & Iselin Engine 9-2. Port Reading Engine 2-2, Avenel Engine 5-1 and Sayreville Truck 2 covered the City during the incident. The fire is under investigation by the PAFD.
