Girls on The Run of Central NJ Charity 5K Set for Nov. 24

Net Proceeds from Race will go to the Council’s Scholarship Fund

SOMERVILLE – Girls on the Run of Central NJ (GOTRCNJ) will celebrate the end of its 18th season with a 5K run through the streets of downtown Somerville. The Honorable Dennis Sullivan, Mayor of Somerville, will kick off the 5K Race on Sunday November 24, at 11:00 am. Open to the public, over 2,000 runners and spectators are expected from the five counties GOTRCNJ serves. Since race inception thousands of dollars have been raised as part of the GOTRCNJ Scholarship Fund effort. Net proceeds of the race provide financial assistance to over 500 girls annually to enable them to participate in the program. Run, walk, pledge or cheer on November 24, 2019 in support of the GOTRCNJ Scholarship Fund. Donation Station will be available on race day!

WHAT: Girls on the Run of Central New Jersey (GOTRCNJ) 5K race Sunday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m.

WHY: GOTR program participants are joined by family and friends for this celebratory 5k event at the end of the ten-week program.

WHO: This race is open to the public. Join one of the largest 5k timed races in Somerset County!

WHEN: Sunday, November 24, 2019; Online Registration Here: https://gotrcnj.org/5Ks; 9:30am – Packet Pick-Up & Race Day Registration & Festivities 10:45am – Registration Closes; 11:00am – Race Start; 12:00pm – Awards; Registration Cost: Through 11/8 – $30.00; 11/9-20 – $35.00; Race Day – $40.00; WHERE: 20 Grove Street, Somerville, NJ. 

Registration is located on the Somerset County Courthouse lawn, 20 Grove Street, Somerville. This USATF Certified 5K Course is a 3.1 mile course around the Somerville neighborhoods. Awards & Amenities: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Overall Male/Female; 1st, 2nd, 3rd in 10-year age groups; 10 & Under, 11-70+.    T-shirt to all pre-registered, and others while supplies last. Post – race refreshments.

About Girls on the Run: Girls on the Run is a social and emotional wellness program for 3rd-8th grade girls. Participants develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care, create positive connections with peers and adults and make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Each session is led by trained volunteer coaches that guide and mentor the girls. The ten-week program concludes with all participants completing a celebratory 5k event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Girls on the Run of Central NJ serves over 2,000 girls in the counties of Camden, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Somerset.
