Press Release
The City of South Amboy has been awarded funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2021 Transit Village Program for Pedestrians to Transit: Safety and Messaging in the amount of $120,000. Funding provided will be used to enhance pedestrian safety in the areas surrounding the NJ Transit train station and will provide for the acquisition and installation of three LED signs that will provide up to date transit information.
South Amboy is one of the first four Transit Villages designated by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and works continually to advocate for and provide safe and reliable mass transit opportunities for commuters. “This funding will allow us to enhance the safety of patrons of our NJ Transit Rail Station as well as those who plan to use our upcoming Passenger Ferry Terminal” said Mayor Fred Henry. “With the support of NJDOT and in partnership with NJ Transit we will continue to improve our status as a Transit Village to provide the best possible environment for New Jersey commuters”.
South Amboy remains on track to break ground on their much anticipated Passenger Ferry terminal this year. The addition of this facility will make South Amboy unique in that it will offer convenient rail and ferry transportation in close proximity in the same community.
“We are grateful for the continued support from Governor Murphy, Assembly Speaker Coughlin, and Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti that allows us to make regular improvements to our capabilities as a New Jersey Transit Village”, said Mayor Henry.
