Tails and Tales at the Dowdell Library
Press Release
SOUTH AMBOY — It’s that time of year again! The Dowdell Library Summer Reading Program, Tails & Tales, officially kicks off in July! Grab a pen and paper because you won’t want to miss a thing!
Read Squared is back this year! Read Squared is where you can efficiently track and log all your reading hours for the summer to win prizes. You can find all the details about how to make your account on our website coming soon.
Each month this summer, we will feature two animal themes. July opens with Bookish Beasts for the first two weeks, and then Under the Sea is Home for Me for the final two. At the beginning of August, we will focus on Endangered Animals and then wrap up the month by taking a walk on the Wild Side. Each week we will have new programs for all age groups!
Children can visit the library and enjoy weekly outdoor crafts and activities every Monday and Friday! We are also hosting Celebrity Storytime at the Waterfront Gazebo! Our first outdoor Storytime will be held on Tuesday, June 22 (rain date June 29) from 11 am to 12:30 pm in the gazebo at the Waterfront Park. South Amboy’s very own Zusette Dato, Deputy County Clerk, will be joining Ms. Maryanne for a family fun event! Seating under the pavilion is limited (but don’t worry, there is plenty of room on the grass surrounding the gazebo!) We ask that you bring a beach towel to sit on and make social distancing easy! Future Storytime dates: Tuesday, July 13, (rain date July 20) featuring Glenn Skarzynski, South Amboy Business Administrator, and Tuesday, August 10, (rain date August 17) featuring Suzanne Ryan as Mother Goose!
Tweens and teens can enjoy weekly computer time at the library! Every Wednesday, computers will be reserved for the tweens and teens to come in, play E-games, email friends, or work on summer homework. There are also crafts and activities planned throughout the summer!
Adults can participate in virtual trivia contests, create their family tale using Heritage Quest, pick up MIY crafts, and taste various smoothies at the library!
Have you ever dreamed of owning a sailboat? If so, you won’t want to miss our Sail Away on the Raritan Bay virtual program. The video will be on YouTube in July.
Prizes and giveaways will happen all summer long for all ages!
Details and information about each program will be posted on our website, Dowdell.org, in June and shared on our social media pages. You can also sign up for our monthly newsletter on our website and have all the program information sent directly to your email!
