SOUTH AMBOY – During our Covid winter, we have many ways of presenting programs. March Madness, anyone? Stop in and take your shot in the March Madness Basketball Toss! Your slam dunk will earn a chance to win a new basketball! Don’t let the cold weather slow you down! Get your game on and borrow sports equipment such as basketballs, footballs, and soccer/volleyballs from the Library! All you need is your Dowdell Library card! Thank you to Councilwoman Dato for kick starting the Game On! program and to the South Amboy/Sayreville Rotary Club for the generous donation.
The Dowdell Library is 108 years old! They are also celebrating Read Across America for Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Stop by the first week in March to get a free Dr. Seuss hat and take your picture with The Cat in the Hat.
March is all about Makers Day. Makers Day encourages creativity and exploration using your imagination. Every Wednesday in the children’s room, there will be a new Maker’s challenge. On March 24, from 4:00 – 7:03, bring the whole family for a Makers Day event. There will be science, technology & engineering activities set up throughout the Library.
Is the luck of the Irish with you? Adults (18+) can stop by the Library and enter our Luck of the Irish Trivia Contest during the entire month of March. One lucky person will win an Irish gift basket. The contest runs from March 1- 17.

The 2022 Tax season is here! The Sadie Pope Dowdell Library is pleased to support financial stability in our community. Free, contactless tax return assistance is available for individuals earning less than $65,000 annually. The VITA program has operated for over 50 years, offering free tax help to low- to moderate-income, individuals with disabilities, and non-English speaking taxpayers. Pick up the tax documents at the Library.
Invest more time in yourself this year! The Dowdell Library offers free virtual classes through the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Classes offered in March include A Virtual Guided Imagery Relaxation Session, a stretching and flexibility workshop, age-related hearing loss, and a course to learn what your nails say about your health. Planning ahead in life secures your legacy. On Thursday, March 31, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, author and speaker Kenneth Vercammen will be at the Library to discuss wills, probate & Estate Planning. Learn about the 2022 Federal Estate tax changes and more! Limited seating.
