One of the best and cheapest ways of branding your business is to start speaking in front of target audiences, if you have not already done this.

Speaking in front of small or large groups, such as chambers, civic groups, business meetings, men’s and women’s organizations, rotary clubs and other professional organizations will bring you recognition.

With the economy the way it is today, companies are looking for speakers who can motivate their audience.

Some topics that are important today are: How to increase your sales, setting your goals and keeping focused, staying positive, networking and time management. Make sure your speech is in a positive way then be a sour-sounding whiner and complainer.

Many businesspeople would like to speak in front of an audience, but they have a fear of speaking.

At meetings I have attended I notice that when businesspeople are called on to give their 60 second elevator speech, they stand there in fear.

These people would rather be in the audience than on the stage. You can overcome this by following a few basic rules: When you are asked to give a speech start practicing weeks in advance, do it in front of a mirror, in front of your family and with your friends.

When you feel you have practiced enough (do not memorize your speech) practice more.

To help you be a calm, confident and compelling speaker, there are many good speaking coaches, mentors and classes that you can take in school.

If you are on a tight budget, I would highly recommend Toastmasters International.

They meet weekly at your local library and chamber. Go to their website:
