All Veterans are cordially invited to join members of American Legion Matawan Post 176 Monday evening May 13th at Burrowes Mansion, 94 Main Street, Matawan, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Post 176 was OFFICIALLY REACTIVATED Monday evening April 8th in Burrowes Mansion, by State Commander Gene O’Grady, American Legion Department of New Jersey, in the presence of twenty-six Veterans from the Matawan-Aberdeen community. Members heard Joseph M. Gugliuzza, Monmouth County Adjutant, describe American Legion programs, and how the organization provides vital services for our Veterans nationally.

Matawan Historian John Savolaine, a member of Post 176, described the role of Burrowes Mansion in the founding of our Republic, and presented a history of Matawan Post 176, dating back to 1920, and one its first Post Commanders, William Sutphan, World War I aviator, former Matawan Mayor, and U.S. Congressman. Post 176 played a major role in the community, as its once majestic Main Street building was the site of Matawan Borough Hall, Police Station, Retail, Community and Entertainment Center. Post 176 also dedicated Memorial Park and the World War I monument to Matawan Borough.

Put Monday, May 13th, on your calendar and join members of Post 176 as it nominates its officers, and outlines its programs for the coming year, to include reactivation of the nationally respected Boys State Program. Joseph M. Gugliuzza will again be on hand to guide Post 176 in its reorganization efforts. Refreshments will again be served. Post 176 is also invited by Matawan Recreation Director Deidre Ring to participate in Matawan’s Sunday, May 26th Memorial Day Parade again this year. Post 176 has participated in the parade the last 2 years. If you are interested, please telephone 732 583-5069.
