Council Urged to be More Proactive

PERTH AMBOY – At the 6/25/14 Council Meeting some residents complained to the City Council that they should be more vocal when appointed officials behave inappropriately.

Resident David Caba cited a case in Jersey City where the Council will be voting on removing the Police Chief. “In the past, this chief in Jersey City was the biggest supporter of the Jersey City mayor. The mayor from Jersey City is now intent on firing that police chief. Police are not supposed to get involved in politics.”

At that same meeting Resident Stanley Sierakowski spoke about Perth Amboy’s Police Chief. Sierakowski has been critical of Police Chief Ruiz for the last two years. Sierakowski constantly has brought up the fact that the Chief may have been involved inappropriately with one of the subordinates on the force. In the past, Sierakowski has given the former Business Administrator Greg Fehrenbach and the City Attorney Mark Blunda paperwork to let them know that he (Sierakowski) has filed complaints with the Prosecutor and the Attorney General about Police Chief Ben Ruiz’ reportedly unethical behavior.

Sierakowski said, “The at- the-time sitting prosecutor said that sexual relations between consulting adults are okay. I’m going to the new prosecutor (Kaplan). I heard that he’s fair.” Sierakowski mentioned a Woodbridge judge who resigned after ten years on the bench because of an ethics charge.

It was recently reported that the City of Perth Amboy hired a private firm to look into ethics violations allegedly committed by Police Chief Benjamin Ruiz.
