Quality of Life The Library and Fencing On Victory Bridge Discussed

Controversry4PERTH AMBOY – Resident Alan Silber piggybacked off of some of the remarks that former Board of Trustees Member Barbara Sottilaro made at the 12/8/14 Caucus Meeting.

Silber said, “There are nine people who work at the library. (Temporary located at Brighten Avenue) They are understaffed and not following guidelines. Isn’t the library just as important as the parks? For some reason the library is not considered a quality of life issue. It’s just a place to put employees in departments that are overstaffed. Those employees are then placed in the library, but are not qualified nor certified.”

Councilwoman Lisa Nanton was very unhappy about the fencing that was put up on the Victory Bridge. She stated, “I found that solution disgusting what they put up. It only cost about $300,000. What happened to the balance of the $1.4 million that was supposed to be allocated for protective fencing on the bridge?” Nanton said, “The balance of that $1.4 million should be given to us and we will put a correct preventive fence to prevent jumpers.”

Business Administrator Jillian Barrick told Nanton, “Recently a young woman was prevented from jumping off of the bridge. The fencing that is in place now prevented her from getting a footing in between the rails which gave the authorities enough time to grab her.”

Council President Joel Pabon said, “If Ms. Barrick said that one person was prevented this week from committing suicide, I say, “Thank you, Lord.” Even for that small protective fencing that prevented a suicide from occurring.”
