In Memory of Tom Ward

It’s been several weeks since the passing of Tom Ward, a great friend to the City of Perth Amboy whose many contributions toward the enhancement of its environs should be permanently acknowledged.

I’ve read about Kurt Epps’ idea that the area in the International Park, where the Cairn is, would be an appropriate place to create a memorial to Tom, particularly since the Cairn itself was built by Tom.   I don’t think that naming that space after Tom would diminish or complicate identifying the park; rather, I think that naming that area after Tom would be an enhancement.  I can imagine people saying:  “I’ll meet you at the Tom Ward Plaza by the Cairn in International Park”.  That makes sense and has a good ring to it to the ear.  It’s a great idea and I fully support it.

Please don’t let Tom’s memory and the memory of his many contributions be lost to time.  A public memorial to Tom’s memory would long exemplify what one person of good will can accomplish; it’s a good example of what a member of the civil society can achieve.

I stand in favor of this project and urge you all too seriously consider it.
