EDITORIAL: When Blue Skies Darkened

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

9-11-01 What a gorgeous morning that was in the tri-state area. It was a warm summer morning with clear blue skies. You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Ironically 9-11 (911) are also the call numbers for an emergency. We must understand that terrorists are very patient and they attack on certain dates for a reason.

helmetSome people might say 9-11-01 was 15 years ago and it’s time to move on. This has even been mentioned by some who have who lost a loved one that day. Everyone has a right to their opinions and I totally respect that. I personally didn’t lose anyone or knew anyone who lost their lives that day, but it’s hard for me to forget that day.

The recent attacks around the world and in the United States although not on as large as scale as on September 1, 2001. Still it pushes me back 15 years ago.  In spite of what happened 15 years ago, it did not prevent me from enjoying life. There has been talk about making September 11th a national historic anniversary, but then it would just become commercialized like many other historical events that took place. This is one thing I would not wish for. Going forward, my wish for remembering September 11th is that during the day, even for a few seconds to pause and think about those who lost their lives. Also, the heroes on those planes who prevented more deaths from happening when they confronted the terrorists in flight. Just remember the first attack on the Twin Towers occurred in 1993. I believe that was an unsuccessful dry run. Terrorists made sure they gathered enough information to succeed on their second attempt.

If you wish to attend the events to remember those who perished or those who saved lives on 9-11-01, we have a list of those events on the pages titled “We Remember.”

God Bless America.  C.M.
