Press Release 9/1/16
PERTH AMBOY – The Stronger Together Team, led by Mayor Wilda Diaz, submitted over 1,200 nominating petitions this afternoon surrounded by enthusiastic supporters. Mayor Diaz is running for -re-election along with Councilman Fernando Irizarry and Community Activist Jelmin Caba.
“We only needed 250 petitions to place our names on the ballot,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz, “but after we announced our campaign in May the enthusiasm has steadily grown. I am grateful for the support of so many residents and pledge to continue policies that encourage tax stability, wise redevelopment and quality of life initiatives.”
Councilman Fernando Irizarry said he was “overwhelmed and humbled by the efforts of supporters to secure the nominating petitions. The petitions just kept coming in and we found ourselves with stacks of them at campaign headquarters. It is an indication of the desire for a unified city. We need a working majority on the City Council to work collaboratively with the mayor.”
Community Activist Jelmin Caba said the “enthusiastic support was a sign that residents want to continue the progress achieved by the Diaz Administration. I pledge to honor the trust placed in me by the petitioners. Today’s submission is the next step on the path to victory on Election Day.”
The filing deadline was September 2. Election day is November 8.
