Press Release
PERTH AMBOY – Join “Live at the Ferry Slip,” at their final concert of the 2016 season on Saturday September 17th from 7pm-9pm. Live at the Ferry Slip is a free music series produced by Perth Amboy Artworks in partnership with the Historic City of Perth Amboy Ferry Slip Museum. The free event will feature two bands, United States of Boogaloo and The eMKayS. Seating is on a first come first served basis. The charming Ferry Slip Museum will also be open and there are food trucks, ice cream parlor, bars and restaurants along the waterfront.
The United States of Boogaloo performs a stew of Spanish-English grooves cooked up from the sonic styling’s of Boogaloo, Punk, Salsa, Rockabilly, Samba, and Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena music. The band delivers percussion-heavy tunes that pulse from a trickster mix of the group’s collective upbringing in New Jersey and a deep respect for their Latin American heritage. The eMKays play an eclectic mix of folk, rock, jazz, blues and whatever anyone requests on the back of a hundred dollar bill.
The Live at the Ferry Slip music series ran for the first time this year from May-September. The performers featured were local and regional independent bands and singer/songwriters. The series has featured The Rollbacks (latin fusion), Joseph Frame (jazz), Proper (singer/songwriter), Junior Montalvo (blues) and Deivito & Jenique (sea shanties). “We transformed the Ferry Slip into a concert venue. It has beautiful views of Raritan Bay and the full moon,” said Perth Amboy Artworks Founder and Chair, Caroline Pozycki-Torres. Perth Amboy Artworks is a new nonprofit that produces pop-up events and also recently helped produce a 650ft nautical mural on the waterfront walkway.
