PERTH AMBOY -The Forum at Olive Street involved questions that would affect everyone in a community as a whole. There were also concerns on how to effectively involve the Non-Hispanic Community who sometimes feel their voice is not being heard.
Joel Pabon answered, “In my present job, I don’t get to appoint or approve who I work with. Personally, I think everyone should be judged by their resume and qualifications and nothing else.”
Sharon Hubberman answered, “Hispanics should embrace others. If I see there’s an injustice, I will help. I fought for poll clerks and those facing foreclosures.”
Wilda Diaz answered “We hire based on a person’s qualifications. Our workforce is based on the community we serve.”
Audience members had the opportunity to write down questions to be handed in on an index card. In another segment, audience members were able to come to the podium to ask questions. Before coming up, the Moderator said that: “No statements or personal attacks against the candidates will be permitted.”
There were 2 personal attacks directed towards one of the candidates and the Moderator told them politely that they will not be allowed to continue.
