New Jersey Health Initiative

PERTH AMBOY – Perth Amboy received a grant from Robert Wood Johnson in order to become a Culture of Health Community. This grant of $50,000 per year for 4 years is to help Perth Amboy become a healthier community. The initiative is being headed by a collaboration of different organizations in Perth Amboy and spearheaded by Steve Jobin, CEO and President of the Perth Amboy YMCA. The Kickoff Social was held at the Raritan Bay Yacht Club on Thursday, November 3, 2016. It was sponsored by the Middlesex County Health & Human Services Consortium and led by: the Perth Amboy YMCA, The Citizen’s Campaign, Jewish Renaissance Foundation, Community Childcare Solutions, PRAHD, Raritan Bay Medical Center, The Cathedral International, United Way and the City of Perth Amboy.
The first focus on this Initiative is nutrition and obesity. “We want to have the capacity to grow,” stated Steve Jobin. “We have so many great things going on to have a healthy community. We need everyone in this discussion,” Jobin continued.
The Initiative is broken down into 6 Committees:
1.) Healthy Corner Stores and Restaurants
2.) Healthcare Centers
3.)Workplace Wellness
4.) Healthy Schools and Childhood Centers
5.) Community
6.) Faith Based Community
Each Committee will be focusing on different improving different aspects of a healthy lifestyle.
