PERTH AMBOY – At 2:11 p.m. on July 28, a call was placed to 911 from someone in the area of Smith Street and Maple Street, in a commercial building (bank was not robbed), who said that they were robbed at gunpoint by three suspects, police reported.
Two of the three suspects were immediately placed into custody, and the third suspect was caught after a brief foot chase, said police. They were apprehended and positively identified by the victim, they added.
Subsequently, officers searched the area and were able to retrieve part of the belongings, including cash and other items. Additionally, the Police Department’s K-9 was utilized and a loaded weapon was recovered from the area. No one was injured during this incident. Suspects and victim are NOT city residents.
“I want to commend the members of the Perth Amboy Police Department for their exceptional work and prompt response to the incident. There is nothing more important than the wellbeing of our community and our first responders were successful in securing our safety,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz.
