New Perth Amboy High School Schematics Presentation

PERTH AMBOY – Mr. Sherman from the SDA (School Development Authority) gave a PowerPoint presentation on the schematic design documents of the new Perth Amboy High School to be built on Convery Boulevard at the old Delaney Homes Property.

The SDA had over 30 design review meetings with all interested parties. The design requirements are for a school that accommodates 2,800 students, organized by a Ninth Grade Academy for 750 students, a Grades 10-12 High School for 1,700 students and a Transition Academy for 350 students in grades 9-12. The Ninth Grade Academy will be highly autonomous, organized as around five academic teams of 150 students each. Grade 10-12 High School will consist of 5 semiautonomous Academies of approximately 350 students each. The Transition Academy is a Ninth Grade highly autonomous school-within a school of teams of 115 students each.

The Shared Core Facilities include the Physical Education Facilities, Health Classrooms, World Language Classrooms, Media Center, Auditorium and Visual Performing Arts, Large Skills Labs and ROTC, Student Services (Including a Daycare Facility), and a Central Food Services/Building Management/Operations Offices.

Mr. Sherman then showed the schematic design of the new High School which will have 3 floors.

Sherman then stated that the next steps in the process is NJDOE Schematic Submission, District Schematic Design Approval, NJDOE Schematic Approval, Office of State Controller Submission, Complete Bridging Documents, Design Build Procurement, Design Build Phase, and School Occupancy.

Mr. Sherman stated that the SDA is looking for Board approval of the schematics. The goal for the new PAHS to open its doors is for 2022 occupancy.
