MOVIE REVIEW: THE INCREDIBLES 2

The Incredibles 2

“Don’t worry Dad – You’re super!”- Violet

It took a long time for “The Incredibles 2” to return to the big screen, but it is well worth it. We pick up right where we left off. While the heroes are battling the Underminer (John Ratzenberger) he creates havoc across the city and robs a bank and escapes. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) try to stop him but to no avail. The government still feels that superheroes are illegal and that the heroes should go back into hiding. The family is put up in a hotel, but due to budgetary programs their program is about to be shut down. They soon will be homeless unless someone in the family finds work.

It seems like there’s no hopefully the heroes, but an entrepreneur who loves superheroes and wants to bring them back into the limelight meets with Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. He feels that Elastigirl is the right hero to bring them back into the light and is a positive role model to bring superheroes back.

In the meantime, all the rest of the family has a new house. Bob has to find a way beyond being a great superhero and being a great Dad. At first, he doesn’t do really well helping out with homework and trying to fix teenage problems with his daughter and discovering the Jack-Jack, the young baby has super powers.

Enter a new villain: Screenslaver who uses a television or computer monitor to hypnotizes anyone who looks into it. Elastigirl tries to hunt him down to stop him before he ruins the reputation of superheroes and prevent the family from being banned forever.

There is plenty of action and the film moves like lightning. There’s plenty of Jack-Jack’s fun and superhero antics to keep the little guys entertained. The plot is complex enough, so adults won’t get bored. Like in the first Incredibles movie, there are deep and interesting characters: the mother and father are faced with a lot of problems and eventually persevere, and the children eventually learn that life is hard but eventually with family you can conquer anything. My only disappointment is that I would have liked to see more of the Underminer. I didn’t like the producibility of who Screenslaver was. It was well worth the wait go see “Incredibles 2”.
