PERTH AMBOY – On Sunday February 26, 2012 at the YMCA the Kearny Cottage Historical Society presented a program on Black History titled “A Legacy of Resilience.” Chaired by Dorothy Daniel, the program featured readings from quotes from famous historical figures throughout history. Dennis Nanton and the Choir from Concord Baptist Church, Pulaski Ave. in Perth Amboy performed Gospel Music. Participants in the event included Assemblyman Craig Coughlin, Mayor Wilda Diaz, Chief Benjamin Ruiz, YMCA President and CEO Steve Jobin, his sons, Shawn and Roland Jobin, and various clergy, representatives from church groups, and Perth Amboy’s youth.
The program was dedicated to the late LeRoy Nanton who recently passed away.
The crowded audience included local Councilmen from Perth Amboy and Woodbridge and their families. Also present was Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred Scott.
Volunteers from Americorps helped to serve refreshments.
