Shooting Suspect Arrested

News Release

PERTH AMBOY – The Perth Amboy Police Department is pleased to announce the arrest of Reinaldo Perez-Rodriquez, age 25 of Harrison Place, Perth Amboy, NJ.

On Thursday, 25 July 2013 at 9:09 p.m. Police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls for shots fired in the area of State Street and Harrison Place. Upon arrival Officers found Edwin Gonzalez, age 34 also of Harrison place, with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. The victim was transported to the Trauma Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital by EMS with non life threatening injuries. The victim has since been released from their care.

Perez-Rodriquez and Gonzalez got into a verbal dispute which became physical. During the physical dispute a handgun was produced at which time Gonzalez was shot by Perez-Rodriquez in the presence of several witnesses. Perez-Rodriquez then fled the area. Due to the diligent actions of the investigating Detectives an arrest warrant was applied for and granted by Superior Court Judge James F. Hyland who set bail at $2,000,000 with no 10% cash option for Reinaldo Perez-Rodriquez on the following charges Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Unlawful Weapons Possession and Weapons Possession for an Unlawful Purpose.

Reinaldo Perez-Rodriguez was arrested at 2:50 p.m. on Friday, 26 July 2013.

Drug Arrest

News Release

PERTH AMBOY – On Friday, 19 July members of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau, Department’s Detective Bureau, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force set up surveillance in the parking lot area of Convery Blvd. The detectives observed narcotic activity and as a result of their investigation arrested three people: Keith Faulcon age 28 of Richmond Street, Plainfield, N.J., Robert Hayes age 26 of West 7th Street also from Plainfield, N.J., and Jonathan Chacon age 19 of West Scott Avenue, Rahway, N.J. Recovered from the investigation was (170) grams of cocaine from a 2001 Ford Explorer that was occupied by the three. Faulcon possessed $351.00 and Hayes possessed $138.00 which was also seized. The Ford Explorer was seized as well.

Faulcon, Hayes, and Chacon were all charged with possession of cocaine, possession of over 5 ounces of cocaine with the intent to distribute (a1st. degree crime), possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school zone, within 500 feet of a public park and within 500 feet of a public housing complex.

Chacon was also additionally charged with possession of 20 decks of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school zone, within 500 feet of a public park and within 500 feet of a public housing complex. He was also charged with Obstruction of justice and resisting arrest after leading officers on a brief foot pursuit before being apprehended.

Bail for all three individuals was set at $150,000 with no 10% option by the Honorable Judge Emery Z. Toth with the requirement of a bail source hearing. The total street value of the drugs seized is approximately $17,000. The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Carmelo Jimenez Jr.
