Surviving the Heat with Books and Games at Dowdell Library

SOUTH AMBOY – Summer programs at the Dowdell Library of South Amboy run through August, so you still have the opportunity to win great prizes and giveaways. Creative programs for kids such as fantasy crafts, Mother Goose, dinosaur bingo and a fruit smoothie social will be held. It’s not too late to set a summer reading goal! Children with the most books entered into their reading log will win prizes. Most school summer reading books are also available, so stop by the library before buying your books. Adults – participate in the summer program for weekly prizes and the opportunity to win an Amazon gift card.

New! The Dowdell Library Foundation has graciously granted the library new Xbox game equipment and the library just purchased numerous new Xbox games! Games such as “Minecraft, Tomb Raider, Angry Birds, and Call of Duty Black Ops II” may be played at the library. During the summer Xbox programs for children aged 5-9 will be held Wednesdays at 1 pm and Xbox programs for young adults 10 and older will be held Mondays at 1 pm. A special Xbox Galaxy “Call of Duty Black Ops II” competition will be held for adults 18 + on Monday, August 12 at 6:30 pm. In the fall, regular Xbox programs for all ages are planned. The library is not “just books” anymore!

Also, don’t forget about the library’s free downloadable Ebook program. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

Just log onto www.dowdell.org/ereader.html and sign in with the first 13-digits of your South Amboy library card. Borrowing rules are simple: the default loan period is 14 days (you have the option of changing it to 7 or 21 days); the checkout limit is five items at a time; the hold (reserve) limit is five items. When you receive email notification that the item is available, you have up to three days to check out the material. Drop in any time for help or attend one of the weekly Thursday evening Ebook programs from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

When online get up to date news from the library’s web page www.dowdell.org. Have you “liked” the library on Facebook? If you don’t, you may want to! Starting shortly, the library will have ongoing contests on Facebook. If you’re on Twitter, don’t forget to “follow” the library!

Remember when it was the dead of winter and you felt as if you’d never feel warm again, did you dream of beaches and summer fun? Well, summer is in full bloom. Enjoy the rest of it and escape to the library for a cool experience!
