Amboy Spotlight: Perth Amboy’s Barbara M. Skokan

PERTH AMBOY – On July 27-28, Barbara M. Skokan represented the State of New Jersey at the National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.

Her opponents were represented from 49 states. She averaged 200 to win the gold medal.

Because of 3 hip replacements,1 knee replacement, and back surgery, she was only able to attend 4 National tournaments, even though she was the N.J. finalist for the last 12 years.

Her previous wins for the gold were: Pittsburgh, PA, Little Rock, Arkansas, Virginian Beach, VA and Kentucky.

Barbara was inducted into the Central Jersey Hall of Fame in 1984. The N.J. State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991 and has been awarded the Bowling Writers Association Hall of Fame recognition in 1993.

The next qualifying tournament for the senior will be in September. The national championship next year will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Barbara M. Skokan’s highest average is 204, Highest game is 300 and Highest 3 game series is 745. She has been the CJ Women’s Singles Classic Winner for 14 years. She was the N.J. State Events Champ in 1976 and represented New Jersey in the National All Events Tournament in Washington D.C. where Barbara M. Skokan finished 3rd in the United States.

She has competed in the N.J. State Championship team event for 5 years and the Doubles event for 2 years. Skokan has competed in the CJ County Championship team for 10 years, Doubles for 3 years and All Events for 2 years.

She was the gold medal winner of the N.J. Garden State Games for 11 years and the Governor Cup Championship for 1 year. She was the winner of the N.J. Senior Olympics (Singles) for 12 years and Mixed Doubles for 10 years.

Skokan was the winner of Seagrams Tournament in 1984.

She was 3 year World Senior Champ in Singles and Mixed Doubles in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in St. George, Utah.
