Richardson School Hosts its 19th Career Day

By Linda Nagy, School Counselor –

PERTH AMBOY – On June 4, 2014, the Dr. Herbert N. Richardson 21st Century School hosted Career Day as a way to broaden horizons for its young scholars. Presenters from various walks of life spent 30 minutes in different classrooms explaining their career and what is needed for students to meet their occupational goals.

At the school, we had firefighters, a police officer, an artist, a Marine, a Pretrial Court Officer, a baker, a musician and many other presenters including some with links to the community like Mayor Diaz, Mrs. Roman, Edison Jaquez and speakers from the Mitruska Integrated Wellness Center and our local Animal Shelter. We also had a record number of parent presenters linking parents to the school community.

This year we had 26 presenters but next year, our new Principal, Mr. Nieves, would like to start the planning process in September for a possible May or June date so we could make Career Day 2015 one of the biggest and best ever. The more students are exposed to various career choices, the more motivated they will be to think outside the box and see the potential in their lives. That is what we are hoping for with this educational and fun activity for our students.

If interested in presenting next year, please contact Linda Nagy at 732-376-6010. The staff and the students would love to hear all about your career!
