SOUTH AMBOY – Laura Kemble-Kalantsis was appointed acting Municipal Clerk during last Wednesday’s city council meeting.

Kemble-Kalantsis fills the vacancy left by Registered Municipal Clerk Kathy Vigilante, who departed from her position earlier this year. Kemble-Kalantsis is now appointed for a period not to exceed a year that commences on the date of the vacancy.

Mayor Fred Henry and the entire council had nothing but nice words to say about the work Kemble-Kalantsis has done filling in for Vigilante. Henry pointed out the excellent work she has done handling license and permit applications as well as her part in the recent election.

“I’d like to thank everyone for coming to witness Laura being sworn in,” Councilwoman Zusette Dato said during her opening comments. “As much as we miss our former clerk Kathy Vigilante, Laura is really doing a great job for us. Congratulations.”

“I’d also like to congratulate Laura…she works very hard,” added Council President Joseph Connors. “She still has to go to school and that’s the hard part…going to school while you’re doing a job.”

According to Resolution No. 136-2014, Kemle-Kalantsis may be reappointed for a maximum of two subsequent one-year terms following the termination of the temporary appointment. The appointment as Acting Municipal Clerk shall not be more than three consecutive years.

All council members were in attendance for last week’s meeting. The next city council meeting will be Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m.
