Second Fire at Apartment Complex In Six Months

PERTH AMBOY – On early Saturday morning 3/5/16, the Perth Amboy Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex at 775 Chamberlain Ave. Previously in October 2015, this same apartment complex suffered a fire in Apartment #4 and this apartment was severely damaged. The occupant in Apt.#4 in that October 2015 fire was severely burned and eventually succumbed to her injuries.

According to sources, the fire on 3/5/16 started in a switch for a kitchen fan. Besides damage to Apt#4, there were damage to apartments #5, #16 & #17 (See Photos) All the occupants of the entire apartment complex were instructed by authorities to vacate the premises.

There were no reported injuries. Four apartments were damaged.

Besides Perth Amboy Emergency Services, Hopelawn, Woodbridge, Keasbey, South Amboy, Sayreville, Iselin and Avenel responded. David Benyola from the P.A. Dept. of Housing and Social Services assisted fire victims who needed to be relocated. Fire victims were advised to go to the Olive Street Community Center in order to fill out forms in order to receive further assistance.
