4/24/17 Caucus & 4/26/17 Council Meeting

PERTH AMBOY – R-173-4/17–Appointing Jelmin Caba to the Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency for a term to expire December 31, 2018.

At the 4/24/17 Caucus, Councilman Fernando Irizarry said, “I received a letter from PARA Attorney Maraziti stating that any PARA appointments made by the Council were cancelled.”

This prompted Council President William Petrick to say, “Maraziti is no longer with us.”

Business Administrator Adam Cruz reminded the Council, “The Mayor still makes the appointments.”

Petrick came back and said, “The Council has two lawyers working on this and is Maraziti still with the City?”

Former Executive Director Office of Economic and Community Development Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency Annie Hindenlang said, “Maraziti is on the Redevelopment Agency.”

During the 4/26/17 Council Meeting, Resolution R-173 was tabled.

Councilman Jelmin Caba made a statement that he was pleased to be appointed to PARA, but due to circumstances it would be inappropriate for him to take this position due to the State Stature (appointments by Mayor only – not the Council).

Resident Ken Balut was not happy with Councilman Caba’s decision. Balut stated, “You did yourself (Caba) a disservice by turning down the PARA appointment.
