Foundation Awards 11 Scholarships

PERTH AMBOY – Annually the foundation awards scholarships to students of Perth Amboy and surrounding communities pursuing post-secondary education. Through generous donations by corporations, local business and community partners the foundation presented 11 students with scholarships. This year’s scholar students were: Sonia Kumar, Lizette Esquivel, Yoeric Valdez, Ashley Castro, Lisnaldy Gomez, Anays Heridia, Karen Carrasco, Kenvely Grullon, Darina Rodriquez, Erick Negro, and Katherine Granja.

The following Scholarship sponsored are; Rafael Mendez (Tropical Cheese), Carlos and Luz Sanchez, Chevron Corporation, The Rotary Club, R.K. Hughes, Inc., Symbys (from California), Daisey (from California), The Tomasini Family (from California) Dr. Robles Family, Constitution Bank, Barry and Nicole Rosengarten.

The following donors are: Verizon, Raritan Bay Area YMCA, Harry and Caroline Pozycki, Patrisa Phillips and William Johnson (Florida) and Mr. Mustafa Kilic (Cornucopia).

Also being honored at the gala were individuals who have contributed to the successes of the various non-traditional school programs and the community of Perth Amboy and surrounding communities. This year LEAF honored eight community member for their commitment, dedication and involvement, honored were: Ms. Wanda Hernandez – Counselor of Wilentz School “Outstanding Mentor”, Dr. Dulce Rodriquez – Principal of Edward J. Patten Elementary School – “Humanitarian Award”, Ms. Lissette Velez- Saturday Morning Family School Program Coordinator – “Outstanding Staff Member”, Mr. Jorge Cruz – CEO of Jewish Reinance Foundation – “Community Ambassador Award”, Mr. Barry Rossengarten – Founder and Owner of RR&D – “Corporate Leadership Award”,  Honorable Pedro Jimenez Jr. – Judge of Middlesex – “Perth Amboy Role Model”, Mr. Fernando Alonso – Director of Puerta a Forturo in Fairleigh Dickinson University – “Educator Award” and Miss Laurie Hernandez – Gold Medalist Olympic and winner of Dancing with the Stars – Special Recognition Award.

The LEAF foundation mission is to support and offer scholarships and resources to the student population enrolled in the Perth Amboy Educational programs servicing surrounding Communities. A diverse student population, participating in various programs in a non-traditional educational setting will be provided with a variety of opportunities to further student post secondary educational goals.

LEAFs goal is to continue to seek and grow their supporters and donors, in order to be able to offer more scholarships. Many of our students seek and are provided a second chance to complete their non-traditional education, offering them the opportunity for them to continue with their post secondary educational dreams. Our students deserve a chance to enter post-secondary schools at any age, said Dr. Senovia Robles – founder.
