PERTH AMBOY – The 1683 Society Steering Committee met with Perth Amboy City Code Enforcement leadership recently at the City’s Municipal Complex on New Brunswick Avenue to discuss a variety of topics that affect the quality of life in the Historic, Marina and Waterfront Districts of the City. The 1683 Society gave an overview of its mission, the area it encompasses, its standards of conduct and recent successes working with other City Departments. Director Jamie Rios and Senior House Inspector Johan Delgado provided an overview of their department’s roles and responsibilities, and how their team balances adherence to City Ordinances in conjunction with State and Federal laws. Johan Delgado also detailed his team’s range of expertise, their coverage areas and how new technology impacts how they work together as a team.

The 1683 Society also presented its in-house research report on possible abandoned and vacant properties within our neighborhood boundaries. Norman Vazquez stated, “Appearances matter. Some homes in our area look abandoned or vacant. These homes affect the quality of life of adjacent neighbors and home owners. Where possible, the 1683 Society can partner with Code Enforcement to create a positive impact on our neighborhood.” Mr. Rios and Mr. Delgado agreed and established a direct line of communication between the parties to improve neighborhood stability and revitalization.

By partnering with the members of Code Enforcement and City Officials, the 1683 Society is well positioned to achieve its mission to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood.
