Movie Review: Black Panther

By: Anton Massopust III

“The Black Panther lives.”

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to Wakanda, Africa which is hidden away by a forcefield. Wakanda has one of the most powerful Metals in the world: Vibranium.

The Black Panther returns home to be crowned king after the death of his father. He faces new challenges with his family and his old enemy, the Claw (Andy Serkis) has returned. The Claw wants the Vibranium and to sell it to the highest bidder. A new villain who has claims to the throne of Wakanda, Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). Killmonger is an ex-navy seal and mercenary. Killmonger wants to challenge the Black Panther for the throne and the mantleship of being the Black Panther, which is within his rights.

The movie has a great visual style. The special effects are a surprise to the eyes and ears just like a James Bond film, Black Panther uses a lot of gadgets that his sister helps to provide for him. She’s like his Q. The cinematography is wonderful, and the direction is awesome. Everyone in the cast is perfectly cast, and the film is well-acted. The only two complaints I can say is, the film is a bit predictable, but it’s a superhero movie, so you can forgive it for that. I think they killed off the Claw too quickly. I would have liked to see the Claw and Killmonger team up.

Everyone gets to shine in this movie, especially the women. They’re the personal guards who help the Black Panther in the battle against evil. There are no damsels in distress here. Andy Serkis and Michael B Jordan are great as the villains.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the Black Panther in the 1960’s to show that anyone can be a superhero. The Black Panther is a symbol to kids everywhere. You can take the kids and everyone else to the movie. It moves very quickly and is action packed.
