Opening Up A Can of Cockroaches
On Friday May 25, 2018, a man named Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood powerhouse was arrested by the NYPD for rape charges, sent to NY State Court, and released on one million dollars bail. Mr. Weinstein was accused by many women of rape over the years, and those in Hollywood knew this from day one. Mr. Weinstein was the co-founder of Miramax and Weinstein Company. Here’s the fun part – I think the Feds will make a deal with the State Court on Mr. Weinstein, then he will work with the Feds by RATING OUT on other people from the top. How Hollywood was involved in doing very evil things, and YES, he will make a deal: “Door #1 or Door #2?” This will open up a can of cockroaches! What was Hollywood doing? Let’s wait for the can of cockroaches to open. So, keep your eyes and ears OPEN on Mr. Weinstein.

Danger from Planet Warming
Are we in peril from global warming? From 800AD to 1300AD there was the Medieval Warming Period. Grapes grew in England, which had a wine industry, and elsewhere in northern Europe. Lief Erickson found grapes in Vineland (Nova Scotia). Then the weather changed to a Little Ice Age that lasted to 1850. These changes were not the result of human activities.
Current society may have its critics, but people are not going to regress to the 18th or 19th century where most people lived by subsistence farming and used horses for motive power. Little was known about diseases, life was short, many people had little education. Read about it in a library book.

South Amboy Needs Focus
I was in attendance for Mayor Henry’s recent State of the City address in South Amboy, which I found to be both puzzling and alarming because he began by discussing, and concentrating on, the many parades and festivals that occurred here in South Amboy over the past year. While there is indeed merit in hosting events such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Irish Heritage Festival, Halloween Parade, and holiday tree lighting, I was expecting to hear more substantial comments from the mayor about the state of the city.
I was hoping to hear answers about the more pressing issues concerning South Amboy, including why taxes are still so high, why there has been such a delay in creating proper redevelopment opportunities for businesses, what is stifling economic growth, why there haven’t been any significant plans to address the city’s growing opioid and heroin problem and what innovative ideas the mayor and council have to move South Amboy forward.
While I was happy to see that Mayor Henry brought the meeting directly to the senior members of our community at the South Amboy Senior Center, and provided them with food that looked delicious, I am still confused as to why his state of the city address was held in the middle of the afternoon during business hours when most citizens are busy working. I also noticed that his remarks have not been posted on the South Amboy.com website for those who missed the meeting to read for themselves.
I am running for election against Mayor Henry and while I respect him for his efforts I believe that we need someone to take South Amboy in a new direction and that we need a new leader who will address the critical issues affecting our citizens each and every day.
For decades, the city has languished in underdevelopment, broken promises, and static economic growth. I aim to attract new businesses to South Amboy, in both the waterfront and downtown districts, by creating a strong core economic business development group that will be based on not only input from business leaders but from members of the public as well.
We also need to be innovative in our thinking and work together to find real solutions and not just point out real problems. South Amboy can greatly benefit from a supermarket right here in the city for its residents. We can make this happen by properly identifying the correct location that would be most cost-effective and most accessible for shoppers.
Every resident has a voice which counts and I want this election to be a true commentary on why many voices are stronger than one single voice. Unfortunately, holding a midday state of the city address where the mayor touts the many commemorations and celebrations South Amboy holds lacks transparency. I will be the steward who makes certain that government operating under my watch will be open for all to see.
While parades and festivals are excellent ways to offer fun and enjoyable opportunities for citizens, we need to also remain focused on the core mission of our city’s leaders.
