It’s a Wrap! Saris & Textiles of India
SOUTH AMBOY – South Amboy Arts and the City of South Amboy in collaboration with Middlesex County Division of Arts & History Services will be presenting an exhibition on Indian Textiles at the South Amboy Arts Gallery located at 141 North Broadway from Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, August 8. This exhibition, designed by Isha Vyas and curated by Richa Puri, will be opening on Sunday, July 14 and will focus on traditional Indian clothing and fabric decoration. Angioscreen Event
PERTH AMBOY – Hackensack Meridian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center-Perth Amboy is holding an Angioscreen event Friday, July 19, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall A, 530 New Brunswick Ave., Perth Amboy, NJ. Learn your risk of heart attack and stroke. Screenings include carotid artery ultrasound, heart rhythm, blood pressure and screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral artery disease. Xtreme Jeep Show by the Bay
PERTH AMBOY – Over 400 Xtreme Jeeps are cruising into Perth Amboy. The enormous convoy of Jeeps will be on exhibit along Sadowski Parkway on Saturday, July 20, beginning at noon. Perth Amboy’s third annual Xtreme Jeep Show is free to attend. Arrive early, view the Jeeps and speak with the owners from more than 40 Jeep clubs. Jeep owners may register their vehicles beginning at 11 a.m.; the cost is $20. Families will find fully-equipped playgrounds for children. The city’s Department of Human Services is organizing beach volleyball games and will offer activities for kids including face-painting. Live at the Ferry Slip Music Series
PERTH AMBOY – Live at the Ferry Slip Original Music Series, Saturday, July 20, at 7-9 p.m. features The Animal Masks and RGD. Enjoy a great evening of psychedelic and garage rock on the waterfront featuring NJ artists! Free & all ages. At the Perth Amboy Ferry Slip Museum, 300 Front Street, Perth Amboy. Free Training in Narcan Nasal Spray Kits
SOUTH AMBOY – Learn how to use Narcan in case of overdose. A free training session will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the South Amboy Senior Center, 108 South Stevens Ave., at 6 p.m. Limited to the first 30 participants on a “first come, first served” basis. Training is open to anyone who is at risk of an opioid overdose or their family and friends. All participants will receive a Narcan® Kit (naloxone), and education on how to administer Narcan® (naloxone) to reverse a heroin/opioid overdose.

CASA of Middlesex County Information Session
MIDDLESEX COUNTY – CASA of Middlesex County is seeking volunteers to advocate for children who have been abused or neglected. Join our next information session on Thursday, July 25, 6 p.m. -7 p.m. and learn what it takes to be an advocate and change a child’s life forever. When a child is in foster care, having a CASA means they are more likely to find a permanent home, spend less time in foster care, and perform better in school. Champion one of these children from your community and safeguard a child’s well-being through advocacy in the court today.

Bird Walk
AVENEL – Saturday, July 27 at 8 a.m. (rain date July 28). Come to the Ernest L. Oros Wildlife Preserve on Omar Avenue, Avenel for a guided bird walk to see (and hear) birds in a variety of habitats. The preserve is a birding hot spot, with 179 species reported on ebird.com. Birders of all levels are welcome and encouraged to attend! Binoculars will be provided.

Book Sale
PERTH AMBOY – The Friends of the Perth Amboy Free Public Library have a book sale every other Saturday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Brighton Avenue Community Center at the corner of Brighton Avenue and Sadowski Parkway in Perth Amboy. The summer schedule is as follows: Saturday, July 27, August 24, September 7, 21. Paperbacks are $.50, hardcovers are $1, $5 for a bag full, no limit to size of bag except no lawn or garbage bags. We have best sellers by popular authors that are like new. The money goes to support the library by providing programs, promoting literacy or to provide funds to the library for needs beyond their budget. Avenel Performing Arts Center Presents Cocktail Hour: The Show
AVENEL — This August, as part of its inaugural season, the Avenel Performing Arts Center presents Cocktail Hour: The Show, by New York City-based company Ballets with a Twist. PAHS Class of 1979, 1980 & 1981 Reunion

Annual Dominican Festival
Press Release 7/15/19 PERTH AMBOY – On August 9, 10 and 11, 2019, the Dominican community of Perth Amboy will be celebrating the 156th Anniversary of the Dominican Republic’s Restoration of Independence. The Festival will take place at the beautiful, scenic and spacious Waterfront “La Playita” in Perth Amboy.  Over 25 musical attractions are set to perform and will be highlighted by Peña Suazo, La Banda Gorda, Oro Sólido, Dionis Fernández y El Equipo among others. There will also be food from different cultures, in addition to rides for both children and adults. Voices of The Holocaust
SOUTH AMBOY — On Tuesday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m., the Dowdell Library is honored to host the Artistic Remembrance Project’s “Voices of the Holocaust—Artists of Terezin,” a live music, poetry reading, and discussion presented by Collegium Musicum. The program includes an exhibition dedicated to the children’s opera Brundibar, staged at the Teresienstadt (Terezin) Concentration Camp in 1944. Proprietary House Open
PERTH AMBOY – The Proprietary House, the last official Royal Governor’s residence still standing in the original 13 colonies, is open every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., for tea and tours. Tea is served in our atmospheric candle-lit wine cellar, and includes our delicious homemade desserts and assorted teas. A $10 donation, $5 for children under 12, covers both the tea and a mansion. Although the house is still in the process of being restored, some rooms have been newly decorated. Go back in time and learn about William Franklin and other residents of the house. Historic Surveyor General’s Office
PERTH AMBOY – The Historic Surveyor General’s Office, which is adjacent to Perth Amboy City Hall, is now open for tours. At one time, this structure was the meeting place of the East Jersey Board of Proprietors & housed their records. Presently the Surveyor General’s Office is displaying artifacts from the John Watson (1685-1768) archaeological site along with other items from Perth Amboy’s rich history. Perth Amboy history DVDs are also available. Free tours are available Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clubs, classrooms & groups are welcome. Perth Amboy Free Public Library Offers Home-bound Delivery Service
PERTH AMBOY – If you can’t make it to the library, the library can come to you! The Home-Bound Program is a resource delivery service offered to all Perth Amboy residents who are temporarily or permanently confined to their homes because of illness, age or physical disability. Care facilities and nursing homes are also welcome to take advantage of this program. The service is absolutely free to join and use! Residents who do not currently have a library card will be issued one after successful sign-up of the home-bound application. To sign up for service call the library at 732-826-2600.

Volunteers Needed to Help Children in Foster Care
Press Release 5/30/19  MIDDLESEX COUNTY – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County is seeking volunteers to advocate for children in foster care. On any given night, about 250 children from Middlesex County are sleeping in foster homes or other out-of-home placements due to abuse or neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are working to serve more of these children each year. CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to speak for a child’s best interests, making sure they are safe and well-cared for, are getting the services they need and are placed in a permanent, safe, nurturing home as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, with no special experience or education needed. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, pass background checks and have compassion, objectivity and commitment to children. HIV Support
PERTH AMBOY — Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an HIV support group meeting on Monday’s at 6 p.m. Anyone diagnosed with or caring for someone infected with HIV is welcome to attend. Meetings are held at the hospital’s Perth Amboy Division, New Brunswick Avenue.

Volunteer Drivers Needed For Meals on Wheels Program
HIGHLAND PARK – Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County (JFS) is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound senior adults in the Highland Park area for the Kosher Meals on Wheels Program. The program delivers meals Monday – Friday mornings. A commitment of at least 2 days per month for regular volunteers is required. Also seeking substitute drivers who can fill in as needed throughout Middlesex County. Must have valid driver’s license. Museum Pass Program
PERTH AMBOY – The Friends of the Perth Amboy Free Public Library have generously provided FREE passes to some of the area’s most popular museums! Museum passes offer a great way for family and friends to experience educational and cultural fun.
Picking Up and Returning Passes: Passes can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Patron must present the library card under whose name the pass was reserved. Only Adult patrons whose cards are in good standing will be able to check out Museum Passes. Passes are good for a total of three days and are NOT renewable. Passes can be returned at the Circulation Desk or at the Book Drop after hours.
Late, Lost or Unreturned Passes: There will be a $5 amount late fee each day the pass is past due. The maximum fine will not exceed $25.00. Passes not returned within 14 days after the due date, will be presumed lost and borrowers charged the full replacement cost.
Replacement costs for items are as follows: Lost museum pass: Full cost of the pass. Replacement costs vary according to the museum and listed on the catalog record for each museum. Pass Case: $1
