Movie Review: Frozen II

By: Anton Massopust III

Elsa (Idina Menzal), Anna (Kristen Bell), and the gang are back again, continuing their adventures in this new musical adventure. Elsa is called by a mysterious voice that only she can hear. She remembers a story that here parents told her when she was a child about an unknown frozen river far away to the north. Her father told her a story about how the northern people tried to make peace with them, but the elements turned on them and cut them off from the rest of the world. The grandfather built a dam as a symbol of peace. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Sven, and Olaf (Josh Gad) all journey to an enchanted forest which has been isolated by an impenetrable mist. They vow not to get separated, but unfortunately due to a number of circumstances, they all do get separated. Each of the characters goes on this journey and learns a little bit something about themselves. They find that the soldiers and the Northern people can’t get out of the Mist. Elsa must find the source of this balance to nature and magic to save everybody.

Is Frozen II as good as the original? No, because you can’t top that, but the film does stand alone as its own unique movie. There are some really awesome songs, though. Probably two of the best are, “Into the Unknown,” (which was nominated for an Academy Award for best song) and “Lost in the Woods,” which is like an 80’s power ballad. It’s wonderful, powerful, and sad.

The animation is first-rate. There is a little bit too much comic relief here in there. I do like the little lizard. He’s very cute. I’m sure that you can buy him as a plush toy at a Disney Store near you.

Everything about this movie is about girl power and how they can stand up to just about anything. They’re not some princesses waiting in a tower for some Prince to rescue them. They’re doing this on their own. It’s wonderful. Frozen II is a great companion piece to Frozen and could easily be used as a double feature. If you haven’t already seen it or if you missed it in theaters, I say definitely check it out.
