VIDEO REVIEW | Justice League Dark: Apokolips War

Dark Apokolips War 2

By: Anton Massopust III

“The Justice League never quits!” – Superman

D.C. Comics produces better animated movies than their live action movies with some exceptions e.g. Batman and Wonder Woman.

This new movie concludes the DC Animated Universe. Superman (Jerry O’Connell) prepares for a preemptive strike on the planet Apokolips on the Evil Darkseid, a godlike being who has tried to take over the earth several times. The Justice League’s information states that Darkseid is poised to attack our solar system. Superman’s plan is to send a team into Apokolips and stop Darkseid and his minions once and for all. Unfortunately, the plan goes wrong. Many of the league either die or are turned into Darkseid’s minions. Darkseid seems to know everything before it happens. Heroes and villains will have to put your differences before it’s too late. All must unite together before earth’s resources are used up. Superman is left powerless with a Kryptonite tattoo so he and other few heroes, including Raven (Taissa Farmiga), Constantine, Etrigan the Demon (Ray Chase), Lois Lane (Rebecca Romijn), and Damian Wayne (Stuart Allan), Black Manta, Cheetah and a few villains led by Harley Quinn (Hynden Walch) and the Suicide Squad have to attack on two fronts: Lois leading the resistance on earth with Suicide Squad distracting Darkseid’s forces while Raven, Damion, and Constantine find Apokolips’s main generator to destroy it. Darkseid is away busy trying to take over another planet. Raven is dealing with her own problems with her father.

I think you might have to be familiar with the DC roster of heroes and villains characters to really enjoy this movie or at very least have seen the previous DC animated films. They are worth downloading on demand. It’s not for very young kids. There is plenty of gore and cursing and a lot of violence. The cursing I could have done without (it’s just there to get a R rating) The movie is well animated. Some of the voicework could have been changed. I only have a few criticisms (I did not like Rainn Wilson as the voice of Lex Luthor), but it’s a lot of fun and available on demand to rent.
