MOVIE REVIEW: BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC

By: Anton Massopust III

“How are you guys doing? Well, we’re dead but otherwise not bad.”

Yes, it’s been many years since we’ve seen those wild stallions, but now they’re back again, but the song that got them there was supposed to unite the world and help everyone. The song seems to have eluded them, and of course. even their father doesn’t believe that they traveled through time. Rufus’s (the late George Carlin) daughter of the original time traveler finds Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) and brings them to the future to face the Council of the Great Ones. If Bill and Ted don’t come up with the song after a certain time, all of reality will undo itself and time and space will collapse, ceasing to exist.

The Council gives Bill and Ted everything they need, but creating the song proves more difficult than they imagined, so they both decide that the only way they can find the song us to steal it from themselves in the future. They meet alternate realities versions of themselves and their life seems to get worse and worse. The better story is about their daughters, who put a superband together. The daughters go thru time and space looking for the greatest musicians ever which include musicians Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong, Ling Lun, and Mozart who join their band.

A killer robot sent from the future destroys the band and sends them to hell. Now, Bill and Ted must rescue their daughters and the band and convince Death (William Sandler) to bring them back to the land of the living.

A lot this movie is very stupid silly and doesn’t really make much sense, but the music is pretty good, and I wish they would have concentrated more on the daughters who were funny. The historical figures were great and they do not make fun of them which is nice and it was nice to see them all play together as a band. The same actor who played death in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey reprised his role in this film. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves fall right back into their characters as though no time has passed. They find out more about themselves as time goes on.

Is it worth is it worth watching? Yes, if you just want a silly fun time and a little bit of nostalgia. If you remember the other to Bill and Ted movies, you’ll love this. It was a fun film to watch. With all the turmoil going on in the world, I wish it was so simple that song would unite us. Bill and Ted please save us!
