Vas Demands Emergency Council Meeting As Another Day of Violence Strikes Perth Amboy

(Press Release) PERTH AMBOY – Yet another call was recorded yesterday at the Perth Amboy Police Department of reported gunfire. When police officers responded to the call they discovered a robbery and assault had occurred.

“Daily calls to the police department of gunfire and violence are unacceptable. Mayor/Police Director Diaz and the City Council must be held accountable. The good officers of the police department put their lives on the line everyday and are victims of poor upper management by Diaz and Chief McKeon. The City Council must call an emergency meeting and demand answers from Diaz immediately,” an exacerbated Joseph B. Vas stated.

“There must be a comprehensive plan to address the daily reports of violence on the streets before it is absolutely out of control. The residents of Perth have a right to know,” added Vas.

Recently, Joseph B. Vas disclosed that the Police Department was on the verge of losing its accreditation. The failure of maintaining the essential elements accreditation speaks directly to Diaz’s lack of qualification to promulgate department rules, policy, as well as regulations and standard operating procedures.

“It is abundantly clear the absence of a full-time qualified police director has contributed greatly to the surge of violence in Perth Amboy. I am committed to appointing a full-time law enforcement professional if I am elected Mayor,” concluded Vas.
