PERTH AMBOY, N.J. – Buckeye Partners, L.P. (Buckeye), which is a proud corporate citizen in the City of Perth Amboy, has donated $10,000 to the community’s hunger relief program.

Recently, Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz and Barry Rosengarten, chairman of the not-for-profit Perth Amboy COVID Help (PACH) organization, alerted Buckeye of an acute need developing within the community due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  In response, Buckeye made its generous donation to the PACH fund to feed and support vulnerable, local families.

“Buckeye is grateful to be part of the Perth Amboy family,” said David McGuire, Director of Operations for Buckeye’s Perth Amboy and Northeast facilities. “Like any family, when one us is in need, other family members pitch in. Buckeye is honored to be able to step up and help feed Perth Amboy households.

The donation is the latest in a series of charitable giving by Buckeye to the city. “Buckeye has assisted Perth Amboy in the past, is honored to have this opportunity to help now, and looks forward to working to meet the needs of the community in the future,” McGuire concluded.

Mayor Diaz said: “We are extremely grateful to Buckeye Partners for its generous and timely donation to our emergency food program. Thanks to Buckeye Partners and local corporations, we’re able to continue our community’s long-term effort to assist households still struggling to feed their families. We’re asking the city’s corporate citizens to join with us in this time of crisis by making additional donations to help reduce the food insecurities among our neighbors.”

Perth Amboy’s Department of Human Services (DHS) applied Buckeye’s $10,000 contribution toward the purchase of 200 ShopRite Supermarket gift cards valued at $50 apiece, which may be redeemed for groceries and essential household items. DHS recently distributed the cards to local families at the city’s Olive Street Community Center which has been serving as the food distribution center.

Since early March, the center has served more than 12,000 families as well as food pantries, feeding programs and local foodbanks. DHS packs 50 cartons of food each day for delivery to local households.

Perth Amboy COVID Help Chairman Barry Rosengarten also expressed thanks to Buckeye Partners and called for continued donations. Rosengarten said PACH expects to provide groceries and basic supplies into December and beyond.

Perth Amboy’s large-scale food relief efforts are funded by private donations, and the nonprofit organization’s goal is to gather $100,000 in cash donations to purchase groceries and basic supplies for the city’s neediest households. The campaign has received significant donations of groceries from the Supremo Food Market (valued at $50,000) and Tropical Cheese Industries (worth $100,000).

Companies and families are urged to donate online to help reduce the community’s ongoing food insecurity issues. Contribute today by visiting: Perth Amboy COVID Help website (http://www.perthamboycovidhelp.org) and clicking on the donate button.
