3/3/21 Business Meeting via Teleconferencing

SOUTH AMBOY – Councilman Tom Reilly asked that everyone try to patronize local businesses.
Mark Herdman stated that 42,000 bags of groceries were given out this year at the food pantry.
Councilman Brian McLaughlin thanked all the businesses and residents who donated to the food pantry. “Thank all of you especially the organizers who stepped up. Mark has been good through this whole pandemic.”
Councilman Reilly thanked the first responders, and the food pantry. “To Mark Herdman: a job well done!” Reilly added, “The need is still high. From January 2021 to February 2021, 3,000 families were given groceries. 12,000 bags of groceries were handed out this year. The food pantry is in need of food. Donate time, food, or money. I thank Mary Porcello.” Reilly then thanked Tom Kross who is celebrating 50 years as a firefighter. Reilly then gave his condolences to the Mulvey family on the passing of Jack Mulvey. “Jack Mulvey was with the First Aid Squad for 62 years. He was a volunteer, a veteran, and a church usher.” Reilly then asked about the property on lower Main Street.
Law Director Francis Womack answered, “There is no significant change. I’ve constantly been in touch in environmental issues. I’m not in the midst of pursuing anything.”
Reilly asked about the ongoing legal issues with Venetian.
Law Director Francis Womack stated that today (3/3/21) the court rescinded a prior hold. He told Councilman Reilly that he would discuss the specifics in private. “We are not far away from going to trial.”
Reilly then asked about a possible redevelopment of property on Roosevelt Street.
B.A. Glenn Skarzynski stated that there was a submission to the Planning Board and that they must go through the Planning Board to get more information. He explained that at the present time, he did not have any specific information.
Reilly then asked about the illegal palate operation.
B.A. Glenn Skarzynski answered, “There is a lot less there now. The operation was issued a second summons today.”
Vice President Christine Noble thanked the first responders. “My sympathy to the Mulvey family.”
Council President Micky Gross stated that the date of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Saturday, October 2, 2021. “The taverns have been beat up during the pandemic.” Gross explained that the taverns can then get revenue after the parade and during Sunday Football games.
Gross thanked the food pantries. “They are remarkable – phenomenal!” Gross then spoke of Jack Mulvey, “Mr. Mulvey was my friend. He will be missed.”
Gross then stressed the importance of the much-needed vehicles for the First Aid Squad and Fire Department. “This cannot get slowed down!” Gross then emphasized the need to get vaccinated for Covid-19.
Mayor Fred Henry stated, “My condolences to the family of Jack Mulvey.” Henry then congratulated the food pantries. “There is a need out there.” Henry then commented on LOSAP (Length of Service Award Program which was on the agenda). “There are rumors. I have no intention of ending this program.” Henry then stated, “Last Thursday (2/25/21), we had a virtual meeting on the proposed historic accommodations.” Henry stated that soon all plans will be coming.
B.A. Glenn Skarzynski stated, “I encourage everyone to take advantage of free Covid testing on Tuesdays and Saturdays at no cost. There are locations in the city.” Gross then spoke about a vacant property on Fourth and Potter Streets. “It was addressed in municipal court. A $2000 fine was issued. The owner will sell the property.” Skarzynski then stated that a dropbox was ordered and will be delivered. “The First Aid and Fire Chief vehicles will be ordered the minute the budget is passed.”
Law Director Francis Womack said he would let them know about the status of the Pigeon Palace on Broadway. He then stated, “I am looking forward to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on October 2nd.”
City Engineer Mark Rasimowicz had no comments.
No one spoke during the public portion. The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m. Councilwoman Zusette Dato was not present.
