Fire Ravages 3 Perth Amboy Businesses

PERTH AMBOY – On 3/30/21 at 0414, the Department was dispatched to 244 Smith St for a reported fire. Units quickly arrived to find a well-advanced fire involving 240, 242 & 244 Smith St with exposures to the right. The fire quickly escalated to 4 alarms as heavy fire spread throughout the businesses and roof. The fire took 3 hours to fully extinguish utilizing 3 elevated master streams and numerous handlines. There was one minor firefighter injury and no civilian injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the PAFD and Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office. City units that responded were E-1, E-2, E-3, E-4, E-5, R-1, T-3, C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5 & C-9. Mutual aid that assisted on scene were Hopelawn R-8, Keasbey 4-2-4, Sayreville E-3 & T-1, South Amboy E-6, Avenel Engine 5-1 & Woodbridge Engine 1-1.
