PERTH AMBOY – Melissa Lucille Whitehead Brown was born on September 28th, 1965 to the late Mary Frances Rudrow Brighton and the late William Stockton in Perth Amboy, NJ. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and attended Trenton State College.

Melissa was a member of the Cathedral International in Perth Amboy, where she served in several ministries and had previously been employed by The Cathedral Community Development Corporation. Additionally, Melissa was employed by Open Door, in New Brunswick, NJ for five years. At the time of her death, she was employed as a Drug and Alcohol counselor for Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen for the past ten years.

Melissa was truly a remarkable child. At an early age she exhibited an acute interest in learning. She would always greet you with a hardy laugh and big smile.

Melissa loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. Her grandchildren meant so much to her, she adored their presence. She loved to laugh, she loved to dance, she loved being at the beach in any season. She often hosted holiday dinners, picnics, and volunteered her time organizing and attending family reunions throughout the country. Melissa enjoyed eating crab legs. For several years, her love of community prompted her to assist in coordinating a bus trip to Maryland for a seafood festival. Melissa was a kind yet fierce soul that touched the lives of many in her lifetime and will be truly missed.

A Viewing will begin 10am Tuesday May 18, 2021 at the Cathedral International 277 Madison Ave Perth Amboy, NJ with a private service to follow at 11am.
