South Amboy Receives NJ DOT Grant

Press Release 5/14/21

SOUTH AMBOY – The New Jersey Department of Transportation [NJ DOT] in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority [NJTPA] announced yesterday that the City of South Amboy has been awarded $1 million from the federally funded Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program.  This program was designed to fund projects to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists without impact to local property taxes.

The project South Amboy submitted under this program will provide for a new pedestrian/cyclist link between the existing New Jersey Transit Rail Station [NJ Transit] and the soon to be constructed Radford Ferry Terminal.  Upon completion this project will also add to the City’s existing waterfront walkway allowing more access to the shores of the Raritan Bay.

“As one of the original four designated NJ Transit Villages we are constantly seeking ways to improve access to our transit facilities while maintaining a safe, walkable community” said Mayor Fred Henry.  “This funding will provide another critical link in our efforts to reduce vehicle traffic and provide safe and convenient transportation alternatives for our residents and local commuters”.

Ultimately the City plans to construct one final section of the waterfront walkway providing over 1 1/2 miles of interconnected pedestrian/cyclist links serving its transit facilities, the downtown, and the bayfront area.
