EDITORIAL: Correction and A Great Divide or Not

There was a misquote at the February 7, 2022, Caucus Meeting said by Councilwoman Milady Tejeda at that was misquoted in the February 16, 2022, issue of the Amboy Guardian on page 1, 4th column, 6th paragraph of the story, “Sparing of Entertainment ordinance Takes Center Stage”. In the sentence, Tejeda spoke up, “The Puerto Rican Festival was chaotic.” Should read, “I’ve been to the Puerto Rican Festival that they do at Rudyk Park, and it is chaos to find a parking space.” The Amboy Guardian regrets this error.

Because we left out the word, “parking” I received two phone calls regarding this mistake stating it has caused some people to become upset. I misquoted a statement that Councilwoman Milady Tejeda at the February 7, 2022, Caucus Meeting.

In the past, the Amboy Guardian has always made corrections upon request. We were just surprised when we heard this particular misquote caused a division in the community. All I can say, if this is something that can divide our community, we are definitely going in the wrong direction.

I have been to many festivals held in Perth Amboy (small and huge) and I when I saw a post on Facebook when a person said that they should uninvite Councilwoman Tejeda to the Puerto Rican festival, I almost fell off my chair. I’ve haven’t to been to the Puerto Rican festival in a while, but I don’t remember it ever being “by invitation only”. People are too busy living their lives to be caught up in the politics of a small group of people who will do anything to push their agenda. I know what a huge inconvenience it is to have some of these larger festivals in heavily populated residential areas. I remember when the Puerto Rican Festival was held on Hall Avenue, and it was a nightmare because of it being on a bus route that many people took. But despite the crowds, the chaos, the traffic, the parking, the inconvenience, people still came to the festivals. After a long, stressful workweek, they just want to get out and enjoy the festivities with their families and friends. Include me in that group.

Our problems are very minuscule compared to what is going on in Ukraine. Just think about this, because of our (Keystone) pipeline being shut down in America while getting supplies of oil from Putin is making him very wealthy. These sanctions are doing very little to hurt his pocket. Putin is the richest man in Russia. All those who say they want to tax the wealthy people are basically taxing the lower class with consumer prices that are high and getting even higher.

We talk about green energy. There is nothing wrong with that, but it takes time to transition into green energy. You just don’t flip a switch and the whole country is green. You also have to look at countries that tried renewable energy and wound-up fall back on fossil fuels when green energy didn’t go as planned. This technology must be perfected before being implemented. The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.

Let’s get our priorities straight.
