The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and Jamie (Frazier Hines) and Victoria (Deborah Watling) land the TARDIS in Tibet in the Himalayas in 1935. The Doctor knows a Detsen monastery where there is an Abbott and his group of monks who are the Doctor once helped out many years ago. In this 6-part story, the Doctor Returns of the sacred bell to them after all these many years, but there’s strange things on this mountain.

They meet Professor Edward Travers (Jack Watling) who is searching for the elusive Yeti (the Abominable Snowmen) and finds out that the Yeti have now turned very savage. Travers thinks that the Yeti were just shy elusive creatures, which they are, but these Yeti are controlled by the Grand Intelligence who are huge giant furry robots that can rip you apart just as easily. Inside the monastery, there is a monk being controlled by the Grand Intelligence. Even his essence is slowly being eat away and the Grand Intelligence is slowly destroying him. The Doctor has to find this control center in order to stop the Yeti and destroy the Grand Intelligence before he can take a physical form and spread from this tiny mountain throughout the whole world.

You can watch this lost episode of Doctor Who on Blue-Ray DVD which includes 3 different discs: one surviving episode in black-and-white and with all the other episodes which features animation in both color or black and white with the original audio. The last disc features just picture stills from the episode and the audio.

The writers (Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln) who created this story and wrote the sequel “The Web of Fear,” its sequel before writing this one (featuring the first appearance of the Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney), which is an interesting bit of trivia. The antagonist was originally going to use the Loch Ness Monster but then he decided on the Yeti in the end. The audio was supplied by fans which was given to the BBC years ago. This wonderful Patrick Troughton story has been brought back to life through animation and it is great gift for Christmas for any Doctor Who fan of the classic series.
