Affordable Rent? As we all know, rent has gone up big time in New Jersey, and Perth Amboy made the list in a New Jersey newspaper article. The article said people in Perth Amboy are paying the highest rent in New Jersey, just like those other 23 towns that rent. At one time, rent was […]

Contrasting Ideas Do some readers “cringe” when they read a letter questioning a current fad? While “climate” and “weather” are two different concepts they are related. Global warming is supposed to result in early springs and late autumns. If the weather contradicts this claim what is the truth? Climate change has been going on since […]

Humility is Far Greater than Pride Other than to placate and/or inflate someone’s ego, I fail to understand why Mr. “Build a Wall Around Lakewood,” and Mr. “60K Pension (Plus Benefits)” are getting their panties into a bunch (Just an Expression!) Because of the omission of certain individuals’ names in a publication. In and of itself […]

THE COMMUNITY VOICE Meal Boxes I guess the free ride on food stamps will come to an end. Already the U.S. Government has started sending meal boxes. Yes, a meal box if you’re getting up to $ 90.00 in food stamps. So far, they are trying this so-called meal box, and you’ll get to eat […]

Abortifacients In my letter published in the Wednesday, March 14, edition of “The Amboy Guardian,” I mentioned the potential health risks to women of the birth control pill and other methods such as the IUD. I did not discuss the belief, among some gynecologists, that such hormonal contraceptives may have an abortifacient effect. It is […]

Why School Shootings Today? Friday’s Opinion page had a letter that claimed the Constitution did not define the word “arms”. The authors of the Second Amendment used the widest possible definition for this right. It was the attempt to confiscate guns that caused the battle of Concord and Lexington, then the Revolutionary War. Did someone sleep […]

A Bigger Border Wall? There are some who mistakenly believe we need a bigger border wall along the southern border. At times I’ve watched the “Border Patrol” series on the “Justice Network” (channel 68-2). There are existing walls where needed. The vast dry empty spaces limit attempts at illegal crossings. The Border Patrol does its […]

I feel compelled to comment on the proposal by the City of Perth Amboy to re-zone Front Street, in order to “allow property owners to open small businesses such as shops, coffee houses, art galleries, and acoustic venues.” I owned the Maid of Perth Antique Shop on Front Street during the 1990’s. Initially, it was a popular destination, and we sold local memorabilia, nautical antiques, vintage postage cards, and gifts. I also served as President of the Perth Amboy Chamber of Commerce and was on the Board of the Perth Amboy UEZ for several years.

Undocumented Children Is the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” bill really a threat to America? Those who were brought to America as infants or children have been educated here. The cost is around $12,000 a year, so each represents around $150,000 in taxes. Should this money be wasted by deporting them to a foreign land? […]

Partisan Politics &Taxes A recent letter claimed that a political party alone affected taxes. There was no proof offered, it ignored the effects of population density. Areas that are densely populated have higher taxes for their needs. Rural area with a low population density can have dirt roads, no city water supply, no sewage or garbage […]
