19th District Legislators Announce A Combined $1.4 Million In Grants For Local Road Improvement Projects For Four Municipalities

News Release May 3, 2013—

19th LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT – Senator Joseph F. Vitale, Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski and Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin are pleased to announce that the 19th Legislative District municipalities of Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville and Woodbridge will receive a combined $1,424,204 in grants through the state’s Local Aid program which benefits local transportation infrastructure needs. Specifically, Carteret will receive $368,850.00, Perth Amboy $379,744.00, Sayreville $360,610.00 and Woodbridge $315,610.00.

• The Borough of Carteret will use the grant for improvements to Federal Boulevard and Minue Street which serves as a primary thoroughfare for commercial truck traffic.

• The City of Perth Amboy will apply the grant for improvement to Davidson Avenue.

• Sayreville Borough will continue its ongoing overhaul of Ernston Road.

• WoodbridgeTownship will mill and resurface Old Road in the Sewaren section of the township.

Under the Local Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county’s share. NJDOT provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project.
