Fire on State Street, Perth Amboy

Statement from PAFD Chief Abraham Pitre

PERTH AMBOY – We were dispatched to  653 State St. at 8:47pm for the structure fire. Upon arrival there was fire coming through the wall in the front of the building a window as well as heavy gray smoke.  floor.  Upon opening up the walls on the inside fire was running up the walls inside into the attic as well. The second floor resident states she heard something sizzling in the wall; she then saw fire and attempted to extinguish it with pots of water as well as smother it with a comforter. No injuries to either firefighters or residents.  The fire was placed under control in less than an hour.   Mutual Aid Assistance was received from Hopelawn, Keasbey, South Amboy on the scene and Fords and Sayreville. Five individuals needed assistance with relocation.
