Officer Identified in Shooting

SAYREVILLE – The identity of the Officer who was found shot at the old Amboy Cinemas parking lot has been released. Matthew Kurtz, 34 of the Sayreville Police Department was declared dead at the scene. Last year he was one of three Sayreville Police Officers honored by the 200 Club of Middlesex County. He is the Officer pictured in the middle of the photo.

Officer Kurtz was a nine year veteran of the force and recently promoted to Detective.
